A Conservative's take on the Florida amendments on today's ballot

These are my recommendation to you dear readers and voters and I'm sticking to them as they represent my views as a conservative:

I recommend a Yes vote on Amendment 1 titled Repeal of public campaign financing requirement. The idea of publicly financing political campaigns is not a good one.

I recommend a Yes vote on Amendment 2 titled Homestead ad valorem tax credit for deployed military personnel. This bill extends an extra exemption to deployed military personnel proportional to the fraction of the year the person was deployed.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- First-term Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas conceded two hours after the polls closed in Tuesday's general elections with the huge Republican-voter wave of discontent in Washington that glided Sandy Adams of Orange County to an easy victory.

With all 241 voting precincts reporting in the 24th congressional district that comprises parts of Volusia, Orange, Seminole and Brevard counties, Adams, a former sheriff's deputy and state legislator, received nearly 60 percent of the votes, 145,801 to 98,491.

Despite the crushing defeat, Kosmas was upbeat at an otherwise somber Democratic headquarters on Canal Street where she thanked supporters, and with class, issued a statement praising Adams for the big win.

"First I would like to thank all my supporters and all who have worked so hard in this election. I truly appreciate all that you have done to support our fight for the priorities of Central Florida.

"Earlier this evening, I called Sandy Adams to congratulate her on a hard fought victory. America is the greatest country in the world because we have the greatest democracy in the world, and I have the utmost respect for our political process.

Record 5,000 'unique visitors' for elections coverage crashes NSBNEWS.net

Coverage of the 2010 general elections was both good and bad for NSBNEWS.net: The good news is we had 5,000 "unique visitors" on Monday, according to Google Analytics. The bad news is we crashed because our server couldn't handle the record number of online users. This more than doubled our previous record of 2,418 visitors on Oct. 25.

What fueled the demand? Most likely it was our endorsements, considering we were the only media outlet in Volusia County to take a stand with the candidates.

Republican victory in mid-term elections will make a dent in Obama-led socialism

The mid-term elections are over and the American voters have spoken: Because of discontent with Washington led by the likes of Democrats Obama, Pelosi and Reid, the Republicans have made significant gains. The GOP victory means control of the House of Representatives, 195 to 142, and at least four Senate seats. This gives the 2011 Congress enough strength to stop the march toward socialism since Republicans can, and will, block any attempts by the Democrats to continue down the road they have been on for the last two years.

EDGEWATER -- Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 7, and marks the 23rd anniversary of the "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery" program, sponsored by Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, which reminds us to change and test the batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. This message is simple and the habit can be lifesaving.
