PORT ORANGE -- The SWAT team was called out after a 20-year-old man barricaded himself in his Floral Springs Boulevard apartment with his two roommates inside and threatened to kill himself Friday afternoon. Deltona city attorney quits effective in June with some speculating dual residency at issue

George Trovato of Port Orange and DeltonaNSBNews.net file photo / George Trovato, shown here at a Republican Club luncheon in New Smyrna Beach last year,  set a controversial precedent over where a city attorney lives when he was with Deltona before he was fired and ran unsecuccessfully for a seat on the Volusia County Council in November against winner Joie Alexander. The issue of residency may have led to the resignation of current City Attorney Gary Cooney.

DELTONA -- With controversy surrounding where his primary residence is, Gary Cooney has tendered his resignation as city attorney, effective June 19. He makes $132,500 annually.

Cooney, a former city attorney in Mount Dora, has a residence in Lake County, in addition to a condo he bought in March 2010, in Deltona after accepting the job here. He sent his resignation in an April 18 e-mail memo to the city, but did not get into the residency issue, which has dogged him in recent weeks with some residents questioning his primary residence, even after officials said they were satisfied he met residency requirements.

Oak Hill Commissioner Ron Engele doing his best to keep a lid on the dirty little secrets

Dirty little secrets: Oak Hill has a lot of them. Shhh. Be very, very quiet because you don't want to upset rookie Commissioner Ron Engele. He has a bad temper.

Your's truly did that earlier tonight and he ordered me escorted from the meeting room by none other than his new lackey, embattled Police Chief Diane Young. Our video camera got a little too close for comfort for Engele, who screamed at Sera, my lovely wife and videographer, who was aiming not at him, mind you, but at City Clerk/Administrator Laura Goodearly on the other side, hiding behind her desktop computer screen, which she doesn't turn on, but uses as a shield.

Will he or won't he: Is The Donald all trumped up?

Could he? Would he? Should Donald Trump run for President? What qualifications does he have that are a sure-fire antidote to Obama’s never-ending spending, disastrous monetary policy, non-existent foreign policy and a host of other situations that call for leadership?

“Keep the faith and it will happen." That's what I keep telling myself. I am in the entertainment business and like many other businesses; mine has been in the toilet. I am going to try and stay upbeat in this blog because basically, I am an optimist. However as I think about planning a 2011- '12 season, I see nothing upbeat to write about.

Marco Rubio ratchets up political energy with appearance at Daytona Beach News-Journal Center

Photo by Sally Gillies / U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio tackles the tough questions in his appearance Wednesday in Daytona Beach.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The crowd of about 200 filed into the theater at the News-Journal Center and found every seat had a perfect view of the plain black stage. They waited patiently through introductions of the myriad local politicians as did the man of the hour, who stood near the back next to the curtain. But when he strode to center stage it was like turning on a thousand-watt light bulb and audience members went wild. Yes, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio was greeted like a rock star.
