NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A citizen implored the City Commission to reconsider the lay-off of the city emergency management coordinator whose position was eliminated last month as part of a $1 million cut in the 2009 budget that took effect Oct. 1.
That citizen, Kathy Wright, spoke of the firing of Randy Wright.
"A new fire station was built with tax dollars, to include an operational emergency operations center and the city then staffed with a position, euipped the EOC and paid for training for their EOC coordinator.
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- With tens of thousands of bikers expected to roar into town Thursday for Biketoberfest, a local task force is launching a public information campaign to make the roads safer for motorcyclists and locals, said Volusia County spokeswoman Pat Kuehn.
