NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- I admit to being one optimist who believed with little doubt that Election Day 2012 would result in a glorious result. My optimism was partially rewarded and partially crushed by the voters, those running campaigns, those counting votes and those reporting events (or not).

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- It's the final countdown now fo the New Smyrna Beach High School Cudas football team with an undefeated regular season making way tonight against No. 10 ranked Winter Haven in the playoffs.

Samsula Women's Club holiday fair to be held Dec. 1 at SNPJ Lodge near New Smyrna Beach

SAMSULA -- A Holiday Craft Fair will be hosted by Samsula Woman's Club on Dec. 1. The fair will feature crafts, collectables, gifts, raffles, and a bake sale.

The world famous Samsula Woman's Club Cookbook will be available for purchase. Breakfast will be served that Saturday 8 to 9 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come shop from lots of local crafters and support the Samsula Woman's Club scholarship fund. The fair will be held  from 8 a.m. to  2 p.m. at the SNPJ Lodge, 421 Samsula Drive, Samsula.

Daytona Beach Police excluding 24/7 Internet newspaper from press releases, arrest reports

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Daytona Beach Police Department under the supervision of Chief Mike Chitwood made a series of prostitution-related arrests this week, but Headline Surfer can't provide the public with its own news report because the 24/7 Internet newspaper is being excluded from press releases and arrest/incident reports going out to other media outlets.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Cudas head coach Lance Jenkins knew it was going to be no picnic against 10th ranked Winter Haven in tonight's playoff game at New Smyrna Beach Stadium. And he was right. The Cudas entered the second half trailing 21-20.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- The Cudas lost to Winter Haven 24-20 tonight in the opening round of the playoffs after an undefeated regular season with nine wins.

Nova Community Center in Ormond Beach closed for gym maintenance

ORMOND BEACH -- Beginning today, the Nova Community Center will be closed due to gym maintenance. It will re-open for normal activities on Monday, Nov. 26, with regular business hours.

16th annual Charity Ball in New Smyrna Beach raises money for community programs

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A couple hundred people showed up for the 16th annual Holiday Charity Ball at the Brannon Center to help support Habitat for Humanity, the Council on Agings Meals on Wheels and the NSB Caps Scholarship Fund.
