DAYTONA BEACH -- There has been a lot of talk about due process for teachers over the past few years.

Recently, a California court struck down a state law that provides teachers with due process, also known as tenure. Florida, which really has never had tenure, did away with continuing contracts in 2011, for anyone who did not have that right already.

Tenure is often misunderstood. It is often characterized as a job-for-life status. That is simply not true. Tenure means that before a teacher can be fired, the administration must have a valid reason for terminating the teacher.

New Book: Creepy Ass Cracker: SANFORD, Fla. -- HeadlineSurfer.com Publisher Henry Frederick has written his first book, "Creepy Ass Cracker" (842 pages, Xlibris), which hits bookstores early next year. It focuses on the sensational trial that led to George Zimmerman's acquittal in the gunshot slaying of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, but the meaning of the book's title may end up surprising you. Frederick won journalism awards for his Miami interview with Trayvon's parents; later for his trial reports at the Seminole County courthouse. Among other award-winning judicial assignments: • Witnessing execution of serial killer Aileen Wuornos; • Teresa Earnhardt's civil trial keeping husband Dale Earnhardt's autopsy photos sealed after the Daytona 500 fatality; • Texas Motor Speedway's legal fight to force NASCAR to provide 2nd race date. Frederick has appeared on Oxygen network's "Snapped," & Discovery Channel's "Deadly Affairs" on sultry convicted murderer Virginia Larzelere who got off death row years after her dentist-husband's slaying.

NASCAR marketing executive Brett Jewkes tweets farewell to Daytona International Speedway senior spokesman Lenny Santiago on Sunday. Santiago was the Speedway official who denied media credentials to Headline Surfer® for the Fourth of July races. Santiago quit his job to take  similsr post with the Orlando professional soccer league team. His departure had nothing to do with his earlier media ban after the internet newspaper began reporting on extensive campaign contributions by the Speedway to politicians who approved millions in taxpayer subsidies for two big projects.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The senior spokesman for Daytona International Speedway who denied media credentials for one of Florida's top award-winning reporters and publisher of HeadlineSurfer.com, is no longer employed with DIS. He took a similar job with the Orlando professional soccer team.
