DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Michael Shank Racing will kick off its new era by starting the 53rd Rolex 24 at Daytona from the pole position, following a quick lap by Ozz Negri in qualifying for the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season-opener.

Speedway's investment in state legislators' campaigns paves way for expected receipt of $90M in taxpayer subsidies

DAYTONA BEACH — Daytona International Speedway is a step closer to securing up to $90 million in state sales-tax incentives over the next three decades, thanks to its investment in the re-election campaigns of state legislators who will vote on approval.

The Speedway is vying for funding under under a program that rewards sports organizations for major improvements through sales tax payments.

Speedway denies media credentials to internet newspaper -- again: this time for Rolex 24 at Daytona

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daytona International Speedway denied HeadlineSurfer.com media credentials for the Rolex 24 at Daytona that concluded earlier today with Chip Ganassi Racing the winner. The credential denial was not a surprise, considering how vindictive and petty the organization is that is owned by International Speedway Corp., the private corporation owned by the France Family, headed up by Lesa France Kennedy, that also has a controlling interest in the publicly-traded commissioner'a office of the sport -- NASCAR.

Scott Dixon wheeled the No. 02 Riley-Ford DP to a 1.333-second win over the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP of Sebastien Bourdais, after a last-minute caution and miscalculation in switching drivers for the runner-up team sealed the win.

Danny Henry, 44, perished in a fire that engulfed his concrete block home on 302 Oak St., just outside the New Smyrna Beach city limits, shortly after midnight on Nov. 6. His brother, who also lived there, escaped the flames, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A house fire near New Smyrna Beach during the early morning hours of Nov. 6, claimed the life of a 44-year-old man, identified a short time lster that day as Danny Henry, who lived there with his brother.
