Stetson baseball to hold 2014 Chipper Jones Golf Classic at LPGA course in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH -- The two-day 2014 Chipper Jones Stetson Baseball Golf Classic is set for next month at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, the primary fundraiser for the Stetson baseball, said Chris Belvin, assistant detractor of athletic communication for the university.

The classic is being held in The Thursday and Friday dates in conjunction with the start of Stetson’s 2014 season, which begins that Thursday against against Ole Miss. in DeLand.

"One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit Stetson baseball," Belvin emphasized in a press release to Headline Surfer®. "All participants will receive tickets to Stetson’s game against Ole Miss, among other amenities.

APOPKA -- A 16-year-old boy was backing up his family's SUV in the driveway of his relative's residence, not knowing that in an instant his life would be changed forever.

The teen had no idea that 2-year-old Amaris Martinez had wandered out of her family's home in the 300 block of Avalone Drive, just as he was backing up the vehicle the afternoon of July 17, striking the toddler, troopers said.

TAVARES, Fla. – Hernando County Judge Donald E. Scaglione was appointed in November by Gov. Rick Scott to serve on the 5th Judicial Circuit Court in Tavares. The 5th circuit is under the umbrella of the 5th District Court of Appeal, which sits in Daytona Beach. 

Scaglione, 54 of Brooksville and a Hernando County Judge since 2005, filled a vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Judge Sandra Edwards-Stephens.

Free memory screenings for potential Alzheimer's patients to be held Thursday at Visiting Angels in Palm Coast

PALM COAST -- Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior with symptoms usually developing slowly and worsening over time. 

But there is help. The Alzheimer’s Resource Council is offering a free memory screening at Visiting Angels in Palm Coast from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. Attendees are asked to make an appointment by calling 386-446-7874. The screening will be held at Visiting Angels in Palm Coast, located at 185 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite No. 5 (across from Walmart).

“Memory screenings are important in detecting Alzheimer’s early,” said Medwin Nazif, president of The Alzheimer’s Resource Council and director/co-owner of Visiting Angels . “The screenings are open to anyone with memory issues.”
