Back to focus on news

Now that I've made some major upgrades to the home page and some inside pages, I'll be able to focus more on developing stories including Walmart, major issues with the CRA and other stories of interest in greater New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater and Oak Hill, as well as across Volusia County.

I'll go over some of those upgrades later in the week.

For now, I hope that everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving and holiday weekend.

Please remember the less fortunate -- especially homeless and elderly folks on fixed incomes -- and give what you can to help your neighbors.

With this entrenched economy, more families than ever are struggling to make ends meet.

OAK HILL -- On this Thanksgiving holiday and every day for that matter, I am thankful to be a five-year survivor of breast cancer. Because of my good health and good friends, I am thankful that I can help out my city of Oak Hill in some small way as vice mayor.

PORT ORANGE -- I just wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

We all share the great blessings of family, friends, and freedom. I'm also grateful for the men and women who serve this country at home and overseas. Without them, this day would not be possible.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- This week marks an incredibly important holiday for the heart and soul of our nation. In a time when we face economic uncertainty, military conflicts abroad, political infighting, and protestors in the street fighting for the cause du jour, it can be easy for folks to get bogged down in their daily lives.

It is important, however, to take some time to realize how thankful we, as Americans, truly are. Most of us live a quality of life that is beyond the wildest dreams of the rest of the world.

DELTONA -- We have a tradition at our Thanksgiving table. As we enjoy dinner we go around the table and everyone says what they are thankful for. Some of the comments are thoughtful, some funny and sometimes the young ones struggle with the concept of expressing what they are thankful for.

Thanksgiving a time to take stock in what we have

At this time of the year, many of us need to be reminded of what we have to be thankful for because sometimes it is easy to forget. Here in Florida, we live in a really nice place to grow up and raise a family; especially here in Florida, though with scarcity of jobs our young people are having to go elsewhere.

I have gone to great lengths to be able to live here in New Smyrna Beach. Many of my classmates have also done so. We have done this even though the economic opportunities are not as great as elsewhere. The climate is great, the beach is great, the problems including crime and traffic are manageable. All in all, this is a wonderful place to be.

Many people are worried about the country’s future.
