DELAND – A huge start, a clutch finish, and several solid innings inbetween proved to be a winning formula for the Stetson softball team Saturday as the Hatters defeated Florida A&M 11-0 and Bethune-Cookman 7-3 to sweep the Hatter Classic at Patricia Wilson Field.

Port Orange cops: Motorist shot by someone in Ford F-150 on Dunlawton Bridge

PORT ORANGE -- A 46-year-old motorist was in critical condition this morning with gunshot wounds suffered just before midnight by an unknown person in another vehicle who pulled up next to his on the Dunlawton Bridge and fired several shots, Port Orange police said.

The victim, Kanwaljit Singh of Port Orange, was shot twice -- in the upper thigh and left side of his lower stomach. Singh had his 13-year-old son with him in the front passenger seat, but he was not injured. Police have no motive for the shooting.

ORMOND BEACH -- The Oak Hill police force had been gone more than six months, but one of its former cops continued to make headlines.

Manuel Perez was arrested back in February on a charge of domestic violence after punching his wife in the face with a closed fist and repeatedly striking her about her arms, according to Ormond Beach police. But less than three mnhs later, the state dismissed the case.

The Perez incident comes in at No. 53 in Headline Surfer's countdown of the top 100 stories of 2012.

Weather for Daytona 500: 50 pecent chance of rain

Weather has not been a factor so far during Speedweeks 2013 to this point with the great American race yet to go.

Passenger traffic increases 1 percent in January at Daytona Beach International Airport

DAYTONA BEACH -- Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport increased 1 percent in January compared with January of last yar, Volusia County officials said.

During January, 44,170 passengers arrived and departed through the county-operated airport. This compares with the 43,565 travelers recorded in January 2012.

For the 12 months ending January 31, 584,885 passengers traveled through the airport, compared with 558,061 passengers recorded for the 12 months ending January 31, 2012, a 5 percent increase.
