SANFORD, Fla. -- Dennis Lemma was appointed Sheriff-Elect of Seminole County on June 24, when he stood alone in submitting qualifying papers by noon of that Friday Friday's deadline to run in the 2016 elections.

An earlier opponent dropped out and when all was said and done, Lemma had no opposition.

SANFORD, Fla. -- On Nov. 5, just minutes before high noon, a then-unknown gunman brazenly walked into the Harbor Community Bank, 251 West First St., and stuck a handgun in the face of a teller before fleeing with the loot in one hand and gun in the other.

"The suspect brandished a firearm and demanded money from a bank employee," Sanford cop Ronny Neal told Headline Surfer® and other Central Florida media outlets that day, "It is unknown the amount of money obtained. Furthermore, the suspect fled the scene and is considered armed and dangerous."

Sanford cops: 72-year-old disabled vet carjacked at gunpoint

SANFORD, Fla. -- A 7-year-old diabled veteran a carjackd at gunpoint in the 100 block of Country Club Circle on Thursday night, Sanford cops said.

The Sanford Police Department is currently investigating an armed carjacking that occurred on the 100 block of Country Club Circle on August 13, 2015 at approximately 8:00 p.m. The victim in this crime is a 72 year-old disabled veteran.

"As usual, the first train leaves Sanford at 5:06 a.m. and the last stop of the day is in DeBary at 10:18 p.m.," Florida Department of Transportstion regional spokesman Steve Olson said.

OSTEEN, Fla. -- An 18-year-old Sanford woman was killed Dec. 27 when she crashed her ATV in a ditch before it landed on top and pinned her, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.  

The freak accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. that Friday near Deer Run Road and Doe Drive when the teen, identified as Kimberly Phillips of Sanford, fishtailed while operating the 2012 Polaris all-terrain vehicle at a high rate of speed, the FHP said.
