DAYTONA BEACH -- Entrepreneurial advice, insight and personal experience will highlight an evening with Mike Curb, one of the most renowned names in music and motor sports, when the L. Gale Lemerand Center for Entrepreneurship at Daytona State College kicks off its 2013 speaker series on Wednesday, Feb. 13.

The event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7 p.m. at the News-Journal Center in downtown Daytona Beach.

Patrons will have the opportunity to meet the founder/CEO of Curb Records and learn how he built the company into one of the largest and most respected labels in the recording industry and helped launch the careers of some of the biggest names in music.

Additionally, the city is getting a Dollar General Market where the old Food Lion was on the beachside before it closed in February.

1 in 5 Fortune 500 compnies invest in NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH -- More Fortune 500 companies are involved in NASCAR than in 2008, according to a recent review of brands currently using the sport to drive business.

The analysis looked at companies that either sponsor NASCAR teams, tracks, the sanctioning body, or are media partners. The number of current Fortune 500 companies invested in NASCAR (114) remains higher than any other sport. In 2012 alone, more than 24 brands entered the sport, including a handful of Fortune 500 companies.

Gov. Scott: Liquefied natural gas plant coming to Manatee County along with 250 new jobs

Manatee CountyTALLAHASSEE – Air Products, based in Allentown, Pa., plans to expand its liquefied natural gas heat exchanger manufacturing capacity by constructing a second manufacturing facility – 300,000 square feet – at a new site in Manatee County that will bring 250 jobs to the Sunshine State, Gov. Rick Scott announced this morning.

DAYTONA BEACH -- The head of the Halifax Area Advertising Authority welcomed tourism executive Jeffrey Hentz who began his has duties today as the new president and chief executive officer of the Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

"We are excited to have Jeff join and lead our tourism marketing team," said Sean Belgrade, chairman of the Halifax Area Advertising Authority, which oversees the Daytona Beach area's tourism marketing efforts. "This is the start of an exciting era for the Daytona Beach area."
